To whom it may concern,

My business, Big Shooter Products, takes overseas customers hunting in Australia and New Zealand. We like to give our international visitors a real taste of the outback and go into some pretty remote places. As you can imagine our equipment cops an absolute beating and has to work reliably under the harshest conditions imaginable. When we got a spotlight, one of the most important tools for our business, there was no question we got a Powa Beam PL 245

On a recent hunt with two customers from Iowa, a Pig got up off the left side of the Ute and started running. I pulled left, which was also directly into the afternoon sun, and gave the OK to Shoot. Both guys, experienced hunters, shot straight away and dropped the pig.  When I got out of the ute to congratulate them, bothwere looking a little sheepish. One of the guys, blinded by the sun and a little too quick on the trigger, put a 308 bullet right through the top of my spotlight.  There was a very distinct 308 sized entry hole in the top rim of the light and a gaping 80mm long exit wound that peeled open about 30mm. Along with this there was a bunch of dents and holes from the resulting shrapnel that had bounced all around inside the light. It was a pretty impressive job!

The guys were very apologetic and immediately offered to buy me a new spotlight. My reply, a little tongue in cheek, was “Why, what’s wrong with this one?”  The look on all our faces when I turned on the spotlight and it worked must have been priceless! We were all over the moon that the light worked because we had another two days to hunt and we were also at the far end of a 200,000 acre station and the sun was going down. Thanks to the toughness of our Powa Beam spotlight, not only our spotlighting trip home but the next two days, were a great success.

When I got home my first priority was to weld up the bullet wounds in my spotlight and get ready for our next hunt. As a welder and mechanical engineer I was pretty interested to strip my Pro-9 to and check out the design. The first thing I noticed was the outer housing and internal reflector, the two main parts of any spotlight, were both made from alloy, not plastic or glass. This is not only superior for absorbing every day punishment but it’s what allows the light to take a direct bullet hit and just puncture rather than shatter. Great design Powa Beam!

Before I got a chance to patch the holes in my Spotlight, I dropped in to get my regular supplies from the guys at Shoesmith’s Firearms in Toowoomba. When they heard the Powa Beam Spotlight they sold me now had a very impressive bullet hole in it and still worked, they asked if I would donate the light as a working display. As much as I was attached to my old Spotty, especially now it’s got a few neat stitches that added character, I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to have it on display. If you want to check out my Powa Beam PL 245 complete with bullet holes, it’s at Shoesmith’s Firearms in Toowoomba, QLD, hooked up to power in the shop and still working.

Thanks Powa Beam for a tough, and extremely well designed product.
